I have four baby eggplants growing and they’re super cute! He’s getting taller, too.
So after the first 7 blossoms were eaten by something that doesn’t want me to enjoy homegrown eggplant, this guy finally has had a few successful blossoms. Here’s hoping they turn into eggplants because I want parm.
I’ve had to aggressively cut back (read: EAT) the kale near this guy because it’s blocking out the eggplant’s sun. BUT, I think it’s done the trick. There are a few very pretty purple blossoms on this little guy that will hopefully turn into eggplants someday.
I bought this from the display outside Ace Hardware because it said it was “shade loving” and the giant fern is shading the West side of my flower bed.
So not an heirloom… but there’s time for that next year :-p
