Fertilized. The leaves on this guy are HUGE this year. I don’t have a breba crop coming in though, so the tree might be younger than I thought. Oh well – maybe next year will be a figgy year. In the meantime I’ll just be enjoying the leaves.

Figgy Pop! The fig tree was an impulse-buy. It’s planted in a sunny spot in a half-whiskey barrel. It’s first season was a little rough – it suffered quite a bit of stress when replanted – but I’m hoping it grew some nice strong roots and will grace us with some figs this year. I try to keep it pruned to look more like a tree and less like a bush. By “try to,” I mean I trimmed one bit of new growth at the base of the trunk last year.
I removed his little support early on, so hopefully he’ll grow up big and strong. Looking at this photo, I’d say he’s gained some girth over the past summer.
